The SEW IFMA Education Committee had a huge and wonderful challenge this year for the 2011 SEW IFMA Spring Scholarship.  There were 12 candidates from programs at schools across Wisconsin who submitted applications!  Students from UWM, Stevens Point, Concordia University, WCTC, MSOE and Mount Mary participated.

The committee judged the candidates on these criteria:  Letter of Professional Intent, Awards/Accomplishments/Leadership, Grade Point Average and finally, what we call, the ‘’X Factor” or a special quality that would bring the candidate to the top of the list.  When all results were tallied in the weighted matrix developed by Mark Sekula, the clear winner was Brittany Melby who was awarded the $1,500 Scholarship at our June Sponsor Appreciation and Awards Dinner.

Brittany Melby is on track to graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in December 2012.  She is pursuing a double major, in both Interior Architecture and Business.  Among many qualifications, she was the Valedictorian of her high school and has a 3.9 Grade Point Average.   She mapped out a life plan for herself with ways she plans to give back to the community along with having a satisfying career.

Her positive attitude, life skills planning, academic excellence and her desire to be helpful to others really made her the best candidate for this year’s scholarship award.  We were very pleased with the high caliber of all the candidates and look forward to continuing to inspire young people to choose careers in Facility Management through the SEW IFMA Scholarship program.
